“Blessed Are YOU” – Matthew 5:1-12 Rev. Erin Dickey – January 29 th , 2016 Our scripture today comes from the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 5, verses 1 through 12. “When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. French Immersion

I've seen many articles and posts talking about the French flag filter on Facebook - most of which beginning with "Why I wont't change my picture to the French flag" or "Why a profile picture isn't considered activism" or something else along those lines. So, instead of why not, I would like to share WHY. Most people know this, but for those who don't, I grew up speaking French. Louisiana history and culture is deeply rooted in Francophones. Long story short, people got kicked out of France and were moved to Canada then got kicked out of Canada and moved to the U.S., thus giving rise to Louisiana and our culture. For a long time, the native French speaking descendants were considered second class citizens and were deeply ridiculed, discriminated against, and overpowered. Children weren't allowed to speak French in school so for those families who spoke French at home, their children were often denied education or seen as problem children simply b...

My "Prayers of the People" from worship on August 13th, 2017 We cry out to you this morning, “O Lord, how long?” How long shall the world around us fight over who is better when you have given us each an equal seat at the table? How long shall words of hate be the anthem of our nation when in fact the only words that carry weight are the ones you offered through Christ when he promised to always be with us? How long shall we take up arms against our neighbor before realizing arms were meant for embracing? How long shall we pray for peace on Earth when the Prince of Peace has already declared that you love as all the same?
